In 2010, according to United States Census Bureau data, the State of Nebraska had an estimated total population of 1,826,000, which is about 0.59 percent of the United States population.  459,000 (25.1 percent) of these residents were under 18 years of age, 1,120,000 (61.3 percent) were between 18 and 65 years old, and 247,000 (13.5 percent) were over 65 years old.  The median age of Nebraska residents was 36.2 years, compared to the median age of 37.2 years for United States residents as a whole.

In 2010, according to the United States Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics, the approximately 939,400 non-farm employees in Nebraska represented about 51.45 percent of the state population.  169,400 of these non-farm employees worked in the government sector; the remainder worked in the private sector.
