In 2010, according to United States Census Bureau data, the State of Utah had an estimated total population of 2,764,000, which is about 0.90 percent of the United States population.  871,000 (31.5 percent) of these residents were under 18 years of age, 1,644,000 (59.5 percent) were between 18 and 65 years old, and 249,000 (9.0 percent) were over 65 years old.  The median age of Utah residents was 29.2 years, compared to the median age of 37.2 years for United States residents as a whole.

Utah has a land area of 82,191 square miles, and 4.0 percent of this land area is occupied by National Parks.  According to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service, 21.1 percent (11,100,000 acres) of this land area was occupied by about 16,600 farms.  The state has approximately 33.6 residents per square mile.  Utah also has 2,706 square miles of inland water area.  This interactive map of Utah shows the state's roads and highways, while this map of Utah and the surrounding region provides a visual perspective on the state's topography.

In 2010, according to the United States Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics, the approximately 1,181,000 non-farm employees in Utah represented about 42.73 percent of the state population.  216,400 of these non-farm employees worked in the government sector; the remainder worked in the private sector.
