In 2010, according to United States Census Bureau data, the State of Minnesota had an estimated total population of 5,304,000, which is about 1.72 percent of the United States population.  1,284,000 (24.2 percent) of these residents were under 18 years of age, 3,337,000 (62.9 percent) were between 18 and 65 years old, and 683,000 (12.9 percent) were over 65 years old.  The median age of Minnesota residents was 37.4 years, compared to the median age of 37.2 years for United States residents as a whole.
