The median age of Hawaii residents was 38.6 years, compared to the median age of 37.2 years for United States residents as a whole.
Hawaii has a land area of 6,428 square miles, and 9.0 percent of this land area is occupied by National Parks. According to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service, 27.0 percent (1,110,000 acres) of this land area was occupied by about 7,500 farms.
The state has approximately 211.6 residents per square mile. Hawaii also has 4,499 square miles of inland and territorial water areas.

In 2010, according to the United States Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics, the approximately 586,900 non-farm employees in Hawaii represented about 43.15 percent of the state population. 125,200 of these non-farm employees worked in the government sector; the remainder worked in the private sector.
